Maybe because your keyboard is broken, or the mouse may have stopped going well. Whatever the reason, both Android and iOS offer you the possibility of using your mobile to replace these two essential peripherals to navigate the vast majority of desktop systems.
To do this, you simply need an Android smartphone with version 3.0 or higher or an iPhone, iPod or iPad with iOS 8.0 or higher (that is, your mobile will almost certainly be worth it), an application installed on both the smartphone and the computer and, finally, that both devices are connected to the same WiFi network. The configuration takes if a couple of minutes and can get you out of a hurry before the break of your peripherals. Let’s see how to do it.
Use your mobile as a mouse and keyboard, why not?
The first thing you need is to install RemoteMouse on your mobile . It is a completely free app, although you can increase the functions by paying two euros. Be that as it may, the basic version is more than enough. You can download it from Google Play and the App Store . Then, access the developer’s website and download and install the desktop client. This is available for Windows, Mac and Linux, so choose the system you use.
Now open the application on your mobile and look for your computer in the list. Remember, it is important that both devices are connected to the same network . When you locate it, click on it and wait for it to connect. It takes nothing. When it is ready you will see the instructions, which we summarize here below:
- Touch the screen: left click.
- Leave the screen pressed: right click.
- Scrolling with two fingers: vertical or horizontal scroll, depending on where you do it.
- Separate or join fingers: zoom in and zoom out (only on Mac).
- Drag with three fingers: move a window.
Now you can use your finger as if it were the mouse . In the settings of the app (which you can display by clicking on the four dashes in the upper left) you can activate the motion sensor so that moving the mobile moves the cursor, although it is a little uncomfortable.
If you press on the button of the screen that is just to your right you will access the power controls, which allow to turn off, restart and hibernate the computer. The icon of the tabs (fourth from the left) will show you the programs that you have open on the computer to access directly. The keyboard icon activates the keyboard (worth the redundancy) and that is what has allowed us to write this line of text. Just to your right is the option to activate the numeric keypad.
There is no type of lag or delay since you press until the cursor moves, it is immediate. The application works really well and we have not had any problems during our tests, beyond that the mobile has to be on all the time on and that consumes a lot of battery.
